Asian Education System from another view

Well, the first few days of school are awake, there's nothing worse than the UofS (which would be pretty hard to win), but definitely a little stressful. Although I have learned that it is clear that the staff would just say that things have died in the line, but do not really care if you're on time or not. They are threatened by things like putting a "W" on your transcript if you withdraw from the class before the deadline (which, incidentally, was the first day of classes:!? S), but if you wander around long enough, you learn that you actually have a couple of weeks! Two of my classes have been failures so far, the first seminar in biology, is pending in case of cancellation of registration (3 PPL!) When you have 5 students. Thus, we were told: "Go out and find the number of children who want to take 2 points Class" ..... I really hope that the other two are involved in anything because I do not believe that none of these companies to provide students, more classes in the department of science ..... Other microbiology, which I did not expect the school for about four hours, seemed to "Cancel" when the professor is not shown ....... The only Thai students could say was "Welcome to Thailand."I went back to school twice now, though I do not know why I did not learn my lesson the first time I went into the house aimlessly, it seemed that day in the desert, looking for an infinite water and a fan damn it! But I did see a rat and a transvestite, so it had its highlights. So today decided a friend and I to make the trip again. About halfway, he lifted his belt in his backpack, which was across her chest, and he had the perfect strap-shaped symbol that was tattooed on his sweat shirt. He told me to pretend I did not see it, but of course I have taken the internet.I took my first "moto-taxi" ride yesterday! It was fun but scary! We had some time until the driver quickly surprised down the river on this small path to where we had to duck his head on the bridge! My hair was completely destroyed before I came to school, but less than the dollar, I could not complain! Most of us want a house in Bangkok for a few minutes to see Muay Thai fight! Must be quite violent ..... I'm trying to make a video!Oh, and I must say ..... It is 29 degrees.

Western Students lagging behind Asian students

Sydney: School children in the west up to three years behind than in Shanghai, China and Asian educational success, but the product intrusive "Tiger," the parents, the Australian report released Friday said.
Independent research Grattan Institute think tank said in East Asia was a center of high-performance schools in four of the world the best systems in the region - Hong Kong, South Korea, Shanghai and Singapore.
"Shanghai, an average of 15-year-old students' mathematics performance 2-3 years more than the counterparts in Australia, the United States and Europe," said Grattan School of Education, Program Director Ben Jensen.
"This has important consequences. As the economic power shift from west to east, such as high performance training."
Students in South Korea next year, the United States and the European Union, reading, and seven months before the Australian students to report information on the OECD Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA).
PISA-founder of the Paris-based Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development, has become a standard tool for comparing international standards in education.
This study, but in many OECD countries to significantly increase funding for schools in recent years has often been disappointing, and not always successful as a result more money.
Australian schools are enjoying a great increase in expenditure in recent years, student performance continues to deteriorate and was shot in South Korea, which consume less per student than the OECD average, up, he said.
"The cultural success is not defined, the product of Confucianism, learning by heart, or a tiger mother," said the second report, a reference to Chinese parents to drive hard to help their children.
He said Hong Kong and Singapore made great improvements to be read in the last decade, even if the test is categorized to help students learn from the outside than it is necessary to solve the problems.
The report shows that most system-centered, ruthless practice, learning and teacher training, professional development and guidance rather than more spending.
The four systems are also afraid to make tough compromises to achieve its objectives in Shanghai, for example, by increasing class sizes up to 40 students, but to give teachers more time to design their own classes and research.

Community college disavatages

Although there are many unique advantages that can be associated with attending a community college, there are some drawbacks that I would be remiss not to link. We all like to look at the positive side of things and I think community colleges are well, at least as far outweighs the springboard for university learning in much of the bad. However, if you are considering community college as an option, either alone or with the program of your associate degree, to pass through the university level by the end you should see the big picture and not just the light of sunshine and flowers.

The first thing you should know about, and this applies particularly to students with plans to hold that you should consult with the college you plan to attend the next to make sure that you take classes at college is compatible with the basic needs of the university. In many cases, they are similar enough to be compatible, but there are exceptions and it is best to get it sooner than later. If you plan to attend the University, located in the community college you attend, you should check and see if they have an agreement that allows him to communicate freely associate degrees.

Many countries are taking in, and laws that require colleges in their respective countries per unit of Community funds transfer college to try and keep skilled workers in the country. Some universities even offer distance learning programs for associate degree graduates to provide access to students who live far from campus to have access to education, which is banned in the past. Of course, if you live in one of these countries and poor people can now follow in your favor.
There are many housing options in the community colleges and most of the campus is still largely commuter campuses rather than residence. Instead of having to spend money on housing these colleges tend to reserve for expenses to help scholarly activities. There are community colleges in rural areas is much more likely than cities to provide housing on campus. The lack of participation on campus housing in sports and other activities a little more difficult than most colleges residential in nature.
If you decide to do a community college for the last stop when it comes to personal educational experience in itself for you to deprive a large number of earning potential throughout their lives. Therefore, you should consider the benefits are substantially transferred to the university of their educational goals.
My biggest problem when it comes to community colleges compared to universities on the fact that this limited ability to take individual courses, compared to university-level classes. You will find that you need to stick to their sequence of courses at a community college, or you may need an additional semester or for the year to complete the requirements for an associate degree. Universities tend to offer more flexibility, especially in the lower echelons, which are required for graduation.

My other big complaint when it comes to community college for the fact that they are often much smaller libraries than universities. This limits the students must do extensive research, except in rare cases. Universities, but deeper pockets than the average college. For this reason, libraries are more and more bells and whistles than the college average. We hope we will see that change over time as well. Despite the drawbacks, which can be linked to a community college education system, I think they are more heavily by the beneficiary, a community college, the site offers.

Community college advantages

If you happen to be lucky enough to live in the community, community college, you should really look at your schedule and what classes can provide will help you develop your career in education and your career. You might be surprised to find a range of courses can even make the community college level. I know that I have received some training courses and the extent to which learning takes place in a rather impressive. I believe that many people who have previously failed, the colleges, it is important to provide an affordable place to study as well as a surprise.
Polytechnics have an undeserved reputation for worse, when you could be further from the truth. A good many folk sisters, products, community college courses. In many countries, an associate's degree nursing programs, and rigorous enough to provide clinical experience to the undergraduate nursing curriculum. This means that students will graduate nursing associates degree in nursing are often better equipped to deal with patient care than those who are "better education". It is not contempt for BS Nursing students at all. In fact, hospitals will not even consider you an applicant an administrative nursing position unless you are a bachelor's degree. It is only intended to point out that associates degree programs can be quite competitive and inclusive despite common misconceptions.
Of course there are other positive aspects of the college level for at least the first two of their training. One of the advantages, I'm talking to teachers colleges are dedicated to teaching. They do not work their own research or books. They are there to help you achieve your goals, which means that you have tried to implement their goals.
Polytechnic students are also an excellent buffer on top of their game academically  in high school or back to college after a long absence from higher education. You will not find a large auditorium classes, community college level that major universities are famous for offering. Teachers also can not time their students. Student teacher ratio is less time to deal with the professors of polytechnics to meet student needs.
Another advantage is that even if you go after four years of community college education in their field you will find that performance significantly improved over those that are at least 2 years of college education. The study also shows that students do a two-year community college program are more likely to be eliminated and become a four-year degree than students who start university for four years of training experience.

Some problems may be related to community college education and you should include that they do not have a problem. First, some universities do not agree with many courses available for college-level transfer credit. Make sure that you know what courses you plan to go to avoid the need of the University. You might also find that you can only take courses at times and when they are available. Make sure you have all the limited courses well in advance, so you do not have the second year of classes in order to graduate.
In general, it can grow just as bright as the community college, university education, if you go in the open mind and a willingness to learn. We hope that you can use this option is much cheaper, before moving on to university education, if possible.

Type of financial aids

If you plan to attend college or a parent of the child you hope to go to college, I am sure that you are worried about how you can afford the process. Higher education shows that in many cases, a significant investment. The good news is that there are many options for families on average when it comes to pay the high costs of higher education.
Types of Student Financial Aid
Scholarships. For more scholarships have different sizes and all sorts of strange terms and conditions entitled to receive them. Some are based on need, while others are based on merit. You will also find that some of the Community and religious organizations that offer scholarships as well as a number of companies that provide scholarships to children of employees sign of goodwill and employees. They are a good source of education funding, because they do not have to pay back.
Federal Pell Grants. This is the second source of-financial assistance which are demand back the. However, you must be entitled, if necessary to obtain a certain type of college assistance. To Pell Grant if you are a student, who graduated from college. Formula used to determine the amount of aid that you qualify. A lot depends on the capacity of the family and how much you can reasonably expect to increase the workout.
Loans. This should be used as a last resort, when it comes to pay for your college expenses, because the money is paid back with interest. There are different types of loans available, and you should think carefully and weigh the options before the loan. If you are not the only way to cover your education, it is money well spent when you are successful to repay debt.Student loans at 1). There are three types of student loans, grants, tax-free, and Perkins loans. You are entitled to Borrow supported, take off your interest accumulation until after graduation or you no longer need the number of hours indicated. You do not have to be eligible for the tax-exempt student loan to start accruing interest immediately. If you happen to be exceptional financial need, you can apply through the University a number of Perkins loans. Interest loans to be repaid to the university.Loans from parent 2). These are commonly called PLUS loans (Parent Loan undergraduate students). Parents give loans to borrow money to pay for education costs not covered by other methods of financial support. Loan repayment begins 60 days after the transfer of funds and can have up to 10 years.3) private loans. These loans are unsecured and are based solely on credit loans. They are not the same, however limited, that the government loans in many cases can help to fill the gaps in self-education expenses and the money you will be able to borrow the traditional financial aid opportunities.
Before signing up for certain types of financial good to see the financial aid advisor at the University you plan to attend. They have the best information about what you have to apply for financial assistance to universities and some of the unique opportunities for scholarships or grants that may provide you in your state or college. Higher education is still a dream. Do not let financial constraints prevent you from your goals, if possible, but all financial arrangements with utmost care and thought.

Review Singapore education system carefully, what do we need to do?

Engagement with parents is an important speech Heng Swee Keat Education Minister in the Department of Education (MOE) annual seminar work, in particular, he mentioned that "a gesture toward the parents are not always easy but our schools have to see it as an investment for a lasting partnership "to create. Traditionally, the relationship between parents and educators is characterized by a disproportionate emphasis on the academic career of student performance and the performance itself, and even new book "report" to provide a general profile development (HDP), not students with a staff and participation at the macro level may prove to be the main obstacles.
Involvement of students on a personal level
Since the MOE and schools will begin to get the right policy engagement establish and develop new strategies or platforms - in partnership with community and parents support the school (compass) - to reach them more proactively with parents, it will be useful for students to get involved in the process and, indeed, as intelligently managed, they can serve as a bridge between parents and teachers. By having them - especially for students at institutions of higher education and secondary education - to participate in these activities, it will both strengthen their sense of commitment to their love studies in progress.
First, it is helpful for students some of the existing Parent-Teacher Meeting Mechanism (PTM), which obviously is considered the largest student progress in different areas to facilitate. Stakeholders can then better care of children in a more intimate, and to ensure that the teaching-learning at home and school are complementary. Second, institutions and social organizations, most programs are provided for the existing relationships and productive partnership between parents and children more easily.
Current efforts on the students' opinions about broader political issues, are relatively shallow.
On a more macro-level ...
Current efforts of the students their views on broader policy issues - about the benefits of the joint program, the amount of project work, the corresponding rules in extracurricular activities, etc. - rather Superficially, then, very few efforts have attempted to gather first hand view of students to the challenges and gaps in existing systems. Apart from occasional session if the policy dialogue forum, there are sustainable opportunities for active recommendations of ideas and comments. Even when administrators and representatives of the MOE to make visits to schools, non-anecdotal reports have highlighted how the school is committed to repeat the session for the best part of each show.
Gradually, the session is designed for students measures the changes they believe are beneficial to their school to gain experience. Vis-à-vis the interactions of this nature can provide insights that current measures provide. If the company is effectively managed, it will certainly raise the level of active citizens in the country, and make people more conscious, aware and involved in society in the future.

Universities In Singapore: Address The Research-Teaching Conundrum

Progressive plans to expand the university by the Ministry of Education (MOE) - in the news report, "Building Bridges, finding niches" (29 October 2011) by Mr. Tan Weizhen) - his good intentions and very important. But if our teachers and administrators remain abroad in search of inspiration and improvements, they are obliged to inform the inherent research training, puzzles that plagued our local high schools, and introduction of relevant amendments to the ever growing concern for solving .

Too much emphasis on research and Ranking?

Recently, local universities, such as the National University of Singapore (NUS) and Nanyang Technological University (NTU), provided that their advertising efforts almost solely on their performance in various ranking exercises, and also of having world-class research faculties in the house. Unfortunately, these pedantic concentrations not only ignored the importance of developing good teaching or pedagogical frameworks of the institutions, but also override the need to mold the students outside their lonely academic or scholastic dimensions.
Although the alleged disproportionate emphasis on research has led to anecdotal feelings about the alleged decline in the quality of teaching, as a result of diffuse approach and focuses misplaced. The conflict between research and teaching is certainly not limited to the landscape in Singapore, USA, noted that while the research university model, improved doctoral courses and strengthen the school resolved through writings and publications, students tend to the losing end. Reduction of teaching load for tenure track faculty meant that inexperienced students - even some who find it difficult to communicate fluently in English - more learned, learning outcomes can be accidentally compromised, because external factors from the research products are not necessarily to the benefit comes across the board .

The next step forward

If an accident on the research angle is allowed to manifest itself, the consequences may be harmful in the long term.

With this paradigm shift will usher in new changes in the status quo to help our universities to continue international education games.
In the near future, it would be constructive for the MOE to create viable feedback channels - such as focus group discussions, qualitative sessions, etc. - for current students to articulate perspectives on the above research. Management of the quantitative studies, through representative student associations, the government would one meter from the current challenges and to explore aspects that require more attention or involvement.

On a larger scale, will Singapore be possible to emulate the French plan to form clusters in different institutions, in the sense that the respective research and educational colleges are made clear and explicit, without loss of quality. In this sense, parents and potential students able to make more informed decisions about the kind of education trail and the model is most suitable for themselves. This adaptation and specialization to stakeholders to understand the different comparative advantages, to make good choices and the level of productivity.
Transparency and clarity are important considerations, as dissatisfaction with the research angle is allowed to manifest itself, the ramifications be harmful in the long term.

Career Guidance in the Singapore Education System Seem Lacking

After his education in Singapore since 1998 (secondary 3), and after once been a teacher in training under the Ministry of Education in Singapore, I think one of the many shortcomings of the education system of Singapore is that it is a good career / missing guidance for education students.

Well, I suppose you could argue that the education itself, what is missing, but an oversight (or indifference) of the Ministry of Education in the thought that people know what you want, and will be happy with the choices they made on the age of 16. But believe me when I compare the education of the Ministry of Education. For those not familiar with the education system in Singapore.

At the age of 16 or 17 years, after taking the GCE O-level, the student must choose whether he / she wants to go to the Polytechnic, where he / she has a degree in a specialized area (eg, Engineering, Business, Accounting , mass communication, Nursing, Biomedical Sciences, Information Technology, etc.) or to study in the first study for the GCE levels or International Baccalaureate diploma. The GCE A Levels and the IB diploma program are essentially similar - students choose a number of topics, from a group of subjects available, such as Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, History, literature, geography, economics, etc. In other words, words Everything is quite common, and students are not limited to any particular field.

What worries me is when most students opt for the route Polytechnic. In fact, I'm all for the idea of an HBO school, because I personally feel that the other route is a waste of time (after the experienced). But this applies only if the student knows, at the age of 16 or 17, what he or she is interested and wants his / her career to build.Which brings me to my point that the lack of career / education guidance or counseling in our educational system. Students go to the colleges, the choice of courses that have very little idea, and just discovered they hate the course. While some may leave and re-application of the course to another course more, ultimately perpetuating that mistake, and pursue careers in fields that do not want.

Therefore it is necessary that students have a clear idea of what they ask, what options they have and the different types of careers that would need to follow a certain course given.

Students often choose courses based on the following factors:

1. Not knowing what they want
2. Options for friends3. Selection of parents4. Ministry options (such as the Ministry of Education actively promote the life sciences, everyone rushed to the course. Ditto Info-Tech courses)5. Not having an option due to lower-than-stellar results on the O

And sometimes hate students to complete their studies because:

1. They knew that the course would look like2. They were not aware of the career choices (most of that study life sciences I never thought that I would end up in the lab every day watching cells grow or something)
3. They received only a general description of what the course is about, but not in depth information from the various modules (materials should be given to the students to read, instead of just an overview of the brochures faculty)In that case it painfully clear that the students career / education guidance is lacking, especially after O-level is very general, very general and A-Levels (these roads are the name of the General Certificate of Education GCE for a reason too), because after these tests is to choose the specialties of colleges and universities, which affect their future career.

Of course, a certain discipline to the work force is not entirely impossible, but not the point of education to be equipped with the skills and knowledge to efficiently implement and efficiency of a work in the future? Would not it be a waste of resources to train an engineer, but that he / she goes to another job completely separate?

The remedy for this, maybe it reduce or minimize errors in the decision making stage, and I feel it can be done through the right career / educational guidance.ETA: As I write this, it is also clear to me that it might be better for career guidance are provided by a party that is neutral, not directly related to or influenced by the Ministry of Education. But I am good in both directions (outside of the Ministry of Education, preferably the first), provided that is not provided by the school that the student is considering, for obvious reasons not exactly going to be impartial .
